I am not happy with how I do assessment yet. This is an area that I am constantly playing with because of this. I have a mark book, but I don't think it really reflects how I assess my students. Some of the things in it are marked using a scale of NY, MM, FM, EE (to represent the categories on a rubric), others are marks out a certain total, then I use Fresh Grade to upload, pics, videos, and audio clips to a portfolio for each student. I then can make comments or feedback on these things, so I know what to discuss with them. I also use the Confer app to take notes on their Writer's Workshop and Reading when I conference with my students about these things. Students also do weekly reflections and term reflections, as well as goal making and assessment on how they are doing toward their goals. We were even doing daily reflections for a while! My students do peer/self assessment and I keep all of these things in a folder with their name on it. I want to give them all back at the end of the year so they can see their growth.
Basically my goal is to get my students to see where they are and be able to look at that reflectively and think about how they can get to the next level. I want them to become engaged in their own learning and take an active part in it. I want them to look at feedback they are given during conferences or discussions and use it to grow as a learner. I'm not really sure how to really record everything I assess and the ways I assess in one place. I am sure there are different ways of doing this. My main goal is to see the full picture of my students. I don't think this can be done by just one type of activity or one type of assessment. I wish I could look at how everyone else is doing assessment! Any suggestions?
